The Sheikah have been around in the Legend of Zelda for a long while. Have you ever seen the characters and thought they look familiar? Maybe they are reminiscent of a certain kind of warrior, based on Japanese culture… The first indication in my experience of playing this series was in the N64 release: Ocarina of Time. In this game, we meet Impa, who is portrayed as a stealthy warrior with strong features, intense in every sense. The first time she appears in the Hyrule Castle garden/courtyard it seems to be from thin air. Another giveaway is the Deku Nut, being used like a “smoke bomb” to perform a disappearing act.

YouTuber Gaijin Goombah Media does an exceptional job at noting the many similarities of the world of Zelda and the world of Shinobi. Mainly focused on Breath of the Wild, this video will take you on a tour of the certain aspects of Links adventure in the game that are heavily inspired by the culture of Shinobi. Being an avid fan of the different Ninja comics that have been released, I find it exciting to be able to enter that world within the Legend of Zelda’s newest title. Check it out and learn more about just how much Zelda borrows from Shinobi culture, history, and stories!
