If you are into seeing gorgeous landscapes, beautiful environments and brought to life nostalgia, then you need to head on over to YouTube and check out CryZENx’s channel, home to Zelda Ocarina of Time tech demos in Unreal Engine 4. They are a thing of pure beauty.

This time he shows off the first of the Ocarina of Time dungeon’s, Inside the Deku Tree.

As you would expect from the Unreal Engine, the environment is quite spectacular, but it is dark, compared to the original version. Many people have commented on it being too dark, however after watching the video, the darkness adds a layer of challenge that wasn’t possible on the N64 due to the technical limitations. On the N64, there wasn’t enough clarity for it to be so dark, you needed to be able to see to progress. Within the Unreal Engine 4, I thought it worked beautifully. It’s dark, but you can still make things out. Also, you’re inside a tree, with limited light coming through. I believe this is a better and more actual representation of what Link would be battling while in there – not just enemies but darkness too.

CryZENx does amazing work. If you would like to check out the dungeon update you can watch the video below or click here to watch it on YouTube.
