As we play through Breath of the Wild, we learn that these incarnations of Link and Zelda are both over 100 years old, yet they look like mere teenagers. I wish I had that ability myself! Link not aging makes some sense – he was being held in a form of suspended animation in the Shrine of Resurrection. However, Zelda was in Hyrule Castle using her powers to keep Calamity Ganon trapped the entire time. So why didn’t she age? YouTuber HMK attempts to explain this by drawing a connection between Breath of the Wild and Skyward Sword.

HMK points out that in Skyward Sword, Zelda seals herself in the past in order to keep Demise locked away until a way to destroy Demise was found. When she awakens from her seal, she looks as young as she did thousands of years before. This is similar to Zelda using her powers to seal away Calamity Ganon. HMK theorizes that when a version of Zelda uses her power to seal away a great evil, they enter suspended animation, and time does not affect them normally.
