One of the most interesting additions to the Zelda franchise came in the form of cooking available in Breath of the Wild. It was unlike anything we had experienced in other Zelda games. A player could collect numerous items located throughout Hyrule, and use a combination of these items (up to 5) to cook any dish they wanted. I will admit at first I didn’t believe this new mechanic would take any skill, but I was soon proven wrong by my wife. After cooking up multiple dubious food dishes, my wife chimed in with what ingredients I should put together, and the outcome was several helping elixirs. This is when I first realized how important elixirs were throughout the game.
There have been numerous Youtube videos showing people trying to cook these dishes, and that’s exactly what Youtuber Binging with Babish has done. In this video, he places a steel wok over an open fire to create Mushroom Risotto and Baked Apples. He then heads back to the kitchen to create Monster Cake. During the process, he actually slices open a Durian and tries it. He notes how awful it smells but doesn’t actually mind the taste. The Monster Cake comes out looking beautiful.
It should be noted that he does use some ingredients not found in the game.
