Majora’s Mask has been considered the darkest game in the Legend of Zelda series. However, there’s a popular theory out there that makes Majora’s Mask seem even darker to me: the game represents Link working his way through the five stages of grief. Majora’s Mask opens with Link going in search of Navi, his companion from Ocarina of Time. Navi left Link after the events of Ocarina of Time, leaving Link in a state of grief. YouTuber TheGamer put together a video taking us through how the characters of Termina represent the stages of grief Link is experiencing: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally, acceptance. It’s an interesting theory, and one that makes Majora’s Mask an even sadder tale than it already seems.
