Leviathan Bones is one of my favorite side quests in Breath of the Wild. I love the idea of three scientists trying to determine what wiped the leviathans out, and finding the bones in the far corners of Hyrule was a nice reward for your adventuring. The leviathan bones themselves left me with a sense of wonder, and I wanted to know more about where they came from. The guys at Chamber of Sages tackled this exact topic, and I think they do a great job of identifying some of the potential creatures that could be the source of the leviathan bones. Chamber of Sages mentions Levias and Tentalus from Skyward Sword, Jabu Jabu from Ocarina of Time, Jabun from Wind Waker, the Ocean King from Phantom Hourglass, and the Wind Fish from Link’s Awakening. Chamber of Sages goes on to attempt to identify which great skeleton matches with which possible leviathan based on the features of the skeletons.

Chamber of Sages mostly focused on whale-like creatures as the source of the leviathan bones. This eliminates possibilities such as King Dodongo, Valoo, and other massive terrestrial-based creatures that could possibly be the source of the bones.
