YouTuber Mark Brown has an excellent video series called Boss Keys in which he examines the design of the dungeons in the various Legend of Zelda games. In his latest video, Mark Brown takes a look at dungeons in the first two games in the series: The Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link.
Mark Brown begins by discussing some of the dungeon concepts introduced in The Legend of Zelda that were actually dropped from later games. He then dives into The Adventure of Link and looks at how it maintained many of the common Zelda dungeon themes despite being a side scrolling platformer. The video is a great discussion on how the NES era Zelda games laid the foundation for future dungeon designs while illustrating how Nintendo learned from mistakes made in these early games.
