Nintendo has announced that sales of Breath of the Wild have hit 9.98 million between the Switch and Wii U versions, making it the best-selling Legend of Zelda game to date! The Switch version has sold 8.48 million copies, with the Wii U adding 1.5 million copies to the total. This passes the previous record holder, Twilight Princess, which sold 8.85 million copies.

Now there are a few caveats to this milestone. These numbers don’t include remakes or updates. If you factor these in, then Breath of the Wild still sits in third place, behind Ocarina of Time (11.6 million units between the N64 and 3DS versions) and Twilight Princess (10.08 million units between the original and HD remake). However, given how strong sales of the Nintendo Switch continue to be, it is only a matter of time until Breath of the Wild surpasses these numbers as well!
